Things to do as a UX manager to support your team.
Define roles and responsibilities

It is important that everyone on the team understands their role well and has a clear sense of their stakeholders expectations.
If your team is divided in pods or groups, it is also important to define the expectations for each pod or group.

Have regular 1:1s with the designers

Communication is key! Talk to each individual and make sure to listen. Check on projects and deliverables but also check to see how your team members are doing.

Schedule weekly team meetings

Structure your meetings in three sections:
(1) Discussion Topics -- Create a team board and gather discussion topics before every meeting. Go over any topics that the team would like to discuss as a group.
(2) Project Updates -- Briefly go over latest projects being worked on by the team and identify overlaps.
(3) Presentation -- Look for internal volunteers to make a 20-min presentation for the team (not limited to UX, also include Engineering and Product).

Define a design/delivery process

Before defining a process, take a step back and try to understand how each person in the team approaches a project. For example, use a couple of task mapping exercises (1) What they do from the moment they wake up to the moment they get to work, (2) How do they approach a new project/ticket.
After you have a better understanding on how your team works, define a comprehensive process that aligns well with the identified strengths and that alleviates any weaknesses.

Run weekly design reviews

Hold weekly design reviews with the entire team to address UX and visual inconsistencies.
Collaboration and open communication are fundamental to a good team culture. These designs reviews should be a safe place for people to receive and provide feedback.
Make mobile first a priority during the review process.

Mentor and develop the team

Schedule Lunch and Learns (internal presentations, workshops, etc.)
Offer basic training in HTML/CSS.
Encourage the team to always keep accessibility in mind when creating solutions.
Invite guest speakers to come and teach the team about latest trends in UX and product design.

Attract, Find and Retain Talent

Create job descriptions stating clear expectations.
Describe company culture and vision.
Participate in Career Fairs.
Work closely with recruiters to look for candidates.
Support, train and engage current team members.

Strengthen the relationship between UX and engineering

Bring engineers into conversations early on, so everyone understands the goals of the project.
Invite engineers to white boarding sessions.
Create and share simple wireframes before starting work on mocks.
Involve engineering more on design reviews.
Invite engineers to user testing sessions.
